Our History:

The story begins in 1948 when Wilson D. Brown Lumber first opened its doors on what is still our current site.  At the time, Arnold Fleming worked for the Browns, later to be joined by his brother, Clayton.  Realizing that they could build upon the Browns success, they decided to purchase the business.  And so, in 1965 Rideau Lumber Smiths Falls Ltd. Was formed. 

In the beginning, the store was 1,200-square feet with a total of 3 employees. 

The grand re-opening in 1982 resulted in a 2,600-square foot addition with a staff of 15.  Constantly growing, with the new addition built in 2000,  the current building provides over 15,000-square feet of floor space, with a staff of 50.  After joining the Home Hardware network as a Home Hardware Building Centre, the yard and outdoor storage buildings provide a complete one-stop shopping experience for any project – big or small.  The current fleet of delivery vehicles, including two boom trucks, operate 6 days a week to provide you with efficient, reliable service. 

In the summer of 2003, the ownership of Rideau Home Hardware Building Centre changed.  The new team of owners is comprised of Scott Fleming (Clayton’s son -  the Hardware Manager), Jim Ireton (General Manager), and Trevor Lloyd (Controller).  The tradition of providing outstanding customer service and our attention to your needs is our way of securing your patronage and our future!
